Home furniture in automotive style
A project of author’s furniture made in accordance with automotive design canons. This stylistics, irregular for a living space, was defined by the client. He is a great connoisseur of different technique, and cars first of all, that’s why he trusted our professionalism and gave us complete license. To fill the certain space with objects visually forming specific atmosphere has become the mail goal of the project. One would wonder how a study desk, double bed, compact chest and luxurious sofa can please an inveterate motorist?
First of all, by their design, but the automotive conception can be found not only in their appearance. Also the stages of their elaboration, technology of production, applied materials are analogous to those used for building of the modern concept-cars. The table, chest and bed are completely projected in CAD-system, and the most of panels are milled on NC tool. The materials are carbon, stainless steel, glass-fiber and leather. Many panels are painted with car enamel. A hard carbon frame has become a base of the most part of construction, in some case it appears as a designer element itself.
The desk doesn’t avoid the canons of ergonomics, the arrangement of its elements is thought over carefully, that’s why it’s very comfortable to use. The table-boards are painted with car enamel, a pedestal is covered with genuine leather. Horizontal board converts to slanting part with big pen case for writing materials.
The bed is a multifunctional object – it can be used not only for sleeping, but as a “recreation area” as well. The real automobile MP3 player and acoustic system with 4 dynamics are mounted into the bed’s soft back. You can both lie and sit there comfortably.
The purpose and location of the chest is a little off-centre – artistic articles will be stored inside – and its place is at the glassed-in balcony. Those specialities defined both dimensions and a form of the object. Side elements, covered by leather, evoke the sense of smooth transitions of the surfaces onto the contiguous walls. The upper shelf of the chest has carbon coating.
The sofa is only one out of the four, that wasn’t made from nothing, and this fact only intensifies its connection to automobile world. Its basic part is “imported” from the interior of Mercedes-Benz S-klasse, previous generation, and mounted onto the steel frame. Glass-fiber edging reminds of sport-cars, behind the heads of “passengers” you have an aggressive antiwing and a cowl with cancellated air vent is right under your legs!
